Walden Long Weekend #2

Walden stretches over 750 acres of exceptional beauty in Eastern Ontario. Our private lakes surrounded by vibrant woodland create an exquisite setting for the celebration of summer.

All Walden campers sleep in spacious, well-ventilated cabins. There is ample room for each camper’s belongings. The cabins blend in with to Walden setting – the perfect backdrop for making camp memories.

All Walden Long Weekend campers will be living together with each other in otherwise empty camper cabins.

The Walden Long Weekend fee is $900 + HST (per camper) and include the following:

• Accommodations in our camper cabins
• Meals & Snacks
  • Friday – Lunch, Afternoon Snack, Dinner, and Evening Snack
  • Saturday – Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon Snack, Dinner, and Evening Snack
  • Sunday – Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon Snack, Dinner, and Evening Snack
  • Monday – Breakfast, light Lunch on the Coach Bus
• Full camp programs
• Return transportation from Toronto
• 1 Camp T-Shirt

Campers attending our Walden Long Weekend will have the opportunity to experience EVERYTHING that Camp Walden has to offer. The weekend includes several Camp Wide Programs. We have certainly taken into consideration the weather – we have prepared a “rainy day” schedule just in case!

• 7 T-shirts
• 3 Shorts
• 2 Sweatshirts or Hoodies
• 1 Jacket or Coat
• 1 Raincoat (swamp coat) with rain hat or hood
• 1 Bathrobe
• 3 Pairs of pyjamas (some for cooler nights)
• 8 Pairs of underwear
• 3 Bathing suits
• 1 Pairs of running shoes
• 1 Pair of flip flops or crocks
• 1 Pair of rubber boots
• 2 Sun-protective hats
• 8 Pairs of socks
• 3 Sweatpants or pants
• 1 pair of sunglasses
• 1 pair of inexpensive jeans (for the dance)
• 1 Set of Friday night clothing: Blue bottoms and a White top

Bedding

• 1 Sleeping Bag
• 1 Fitted Sheets (Bed size 30” X 72”)
• 1 Pillow
• 1 Pillow case

Toiletries and sundry items

• 1 Shower Towels
• 2 Swim Towels
• 1 Toothbrush with cases
• 1 Tube of toothpaste
• 1 Comb and/or hairbrush
• 1 Body wash
• 1 Insect repellent sprays
• 1 Shampoo
• 1 Face Wash
• AMPLE Hygiene products (e.g. deodorant, feminine hygiene products, razors, etc.)
• 1 Shower Bucket (to hold and tote soap, shampoo, and other shower products)
• 1 Container of Sunscreen
• 1 Reusable Water Bottle
• 1 Flashlight with extra batteries
• For campers who wear prescription glasses: 1 Extra pair

The “Maybes” – you are allowed to pack these items if you like.

• 1 Tennis racquet (we have lots, but some like their own!)
• 1 Baseball glove (we have lots, but some like their own!)
• Hair Elastics
• 1 Inexpensive camera
• 1 Knapsack
• AMPLE Books and traditional games

And here are a few tips when packing for camp:

• Include campers in the packing process: Even our youngest campers can pack quite well for themselves! Assisting campers to fold and pack their own clothes not only develops their understanding of what they have brought to camp, but also assists in developing the skill of packing! We have found that this helps campers’ sense of independence and feelings of “readiness” for the camp experience.
• On a typical warm summer day, campers should be dressed in simple, practical, washable, light, inexpensive, and durable clothing. Please consider the words, “It’s Camp!” throughout the packing process.
• We urge families to consider sun and insect protection when packing with their campers and to pack ample amounts of sunscreen, insect repellent, and protective layers of clothing.
• No matter what the weather, camp facilities are more than adequate to carry on with full programs. When it is safe and appropriate, campers do move around camp even in imperfect weather situations and so campers should be well prepared for different kinds of weather.

Our MASH Staff remind you that all medications sent to camp should be sent in their original containers with their original labels and sent to camp with the bus counsellor on the first day of camp. Please pack all medications in a sealed container with appropriate instructions and hand it to the counsellor on your child’s bus at departure. Please make sure to include an ample supply. We are pleased to expend all efforts caring for your children when they are away from home – please keep us well informed by using this process for even the most simple of medications. Families of campers who wear eye-glasses or contact lenses are encouraged to send an extra pair of eye-glasses via Bus Mail to ensure that there is always a spare pair kept safe and clean.

Money at camp

Camp Walden is one of the few camps that includes the cost of all aspects of the program in its initial fees. Your payment of our fees is what allows us to provide programs to all our campers.  Please do not send cash to camp.

The bus ride is often a time for campers to make new friends and/or reacquaint with old ones. For reluctant or first time campers, the bus ride can often serve as a valuable “transition time”. Our skilled bus counsellors spend time with each of our campers on the bus to ensure that they are prepared and comfortable for their arrival at camp. Our mandate is to provide a safe, enjoyable, and efficient trip to and from camp for all of our campers. Please find below all the specific transportation information you will need to assist your camper in travelling to and from camp.

Friday:

• Between 8 and 8:30am: Campers & Parents arrive at York University – Keele Campus – 7934 Founders Road 
• 8:45 am SHARP: Campers & Baggage load Coach bus.
• 9:00 am SHARP: Coach Canada Bus Departs.
• Some time after 12:15 pm: Campers arrive at Camp Walden.

Monday:

• Approximatley at 10 am: Campers depart Camp Walden.
• After 1:00 pm and generally before 1:30 pm: Campers and Baggage arrive at York University – Keele Campus – 7934 Founders Road
